Functional medicine is one of the most effective forms of medicine I’ve ever come across. Not only does it use the best natural substances to improve your health, it makes the most of advanced lab technologies to help us work out which natural supplements and therapies will do you the most good.
To use it at home, you won’t necessarily have access to these technologies or the scientific training that allow you to find out what’s going on in your body to create your health issues.
However, there’s still so much you can do!
First, always think like a functional medicine practitioner. Everything has a root cause, or more than one of them. And they usually come from something in your lifestyle and start deep inside your body before a problem shows up on the surface. A few of them include:
- Drugs (medications)
So from home, be your own detective. Think about what the internal cause of your current symptoms might be. For example, did you eat something that you know upsets your stomach, or usually aggravates your body? And if so, can you cancel out the effects by doing something about the cause? If you ate something very recently, try taking some activated charcoal and drink plenty of water (not on a full stomach, however! Wait two hours after eating before drinking a lot of water).
